Quote of the week - Fear of failure

So many of us have ambitions that we wish to fulfill during our lifetime and although some do achieve their aspirations, there is still a large proportion of people that do not due to fear.

What is fear?

Fear is a feeling induced by perceived danger or threat that occurs in certain types of organisms, which causes a change in metabolic and organ functions and ultimately a change in behavior, such as fleeing, hiding, or freezing from perceived traumatic events.

What causes fear?

I have spoken with many people that have ambitions and they are yet to achieve them because of "fear of failure."

People have told me their reasons for not pursuing their goals, I often hear the same resonating words "I don't have the time, I don't have the money, I don't have the support or in my own words I've lost my confidence."

Fear is sometimes deep rooted, for example if a child that wants to be a dancer is constantly being told by family members that they are "not good enough" they may just believe it! Then when that child becomes older, the desire to be a dancer may still be within them but those words of "not being good enough" still rings in their ears and in turn could stifle their growth and confidence.

Social Media is another platform where you can either become confident due to feedback such as "likes" (the world we live in huh?) or it can tear you a part if you read into every little detail someone has said negatively about you. A lot of famous people have said that they don't read the comment sections after reading an article about themselves, merely because they cannot bear to read atrocious comments that are often made by Internet Trolls.

So how can we overcome fear?

First start believing in yourself, trust in your abilities and if you feel you require more knowledge, experience or skills to gain more understanding or confidence in order to achieve your dreams, then GO FOR IT!

Read motivational books by authors like Paulo Coelho, watch TED talks on YouTube surround yourself with people that believe in you and most importantly if you believe in god - then pray for strength and guidance!

If you have overcome fear that was holding you back from achieving your dreams, please feel free to share your story.

"Sharing is caring!"
