Most of my life I felt that it was my duty to help people in anyway I possibly could, from a young age I believed that this was something we all as human beings were meant to do. Friends, family, colleagues and even strangers, if I saw a person in need of help and I had the ability to assist in bettering their situation, I naturally would!
However as I have grown older I have recognized that not everyone is deserving of your help. Unfortunately some people will moan about their situations, have the ability to help themselves, but don't! Call me judgemental but I often find this frustrating, especially if these individuals have people constantly trying to repair their issues.
Some people in the world are "takers" happy to take everything you offer them and then forget you actually exist when they are back on their feet.
Then there are individuals that appreciate your help and guidance and those are the people that should remain in your life.
I've had to learn the hard way in a lot of situations and despite people taking liberties with me, I've always tried to treat people on an individual basis. For example, "just because "Jade stole from me, doesn't mean Karla would."
Yesterday my cousin said to me "you can't save everyone, you need to do you now and live your life. You cannot change people too" She said it with such conviction and I knew she had a valuable point being that she has witnessed my behaviour with friends and family members over the years.
Today I came to realization that not everyone should be allowed to enter our lives!
Some people bring so much stress and negative energy, which in turn can change your character and cause you to become a person god never intended you to be. "Not everyone in your life today, is meant to be in your life tomorrow."
I saw this video clip below on YouTube where Oprah talks candidly about removing negative people/energy from her life. I think this is the best explanation relating to the way I feel at this point in my life.
Onwards and upwards!
